Creatures 2018/2019
During this body of work it felt literally like there were creatures appearing and growing within the paints on the canvas. The process of mixing leftover latex wall paint (from our bedroom wall), with white, red and yellow acrylics and water and small movements of the canvas, created legs, arms, tentacles, antennas and signature red eyes and yellow bellies. The process works best when I have an open mind and I do not have a prefixed plan or idea of what creature I want to create. Many times, prefixed ideas result in more forced or conventional animal like creatures. In contrast, letting go of these plans and ideas creates unexpected dynamics of paint and flow and results in surprising and humorous creatures that logic brain cells wouldn’t have thought of.
